CLU earns "Excellent" team academic standing

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Cal Lutheran women's water polo received Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) team honors after finishing with a team grade point average of 3.21.

Official Release: 2011 ACWPC All-Academic Team

Seven different team members led by CLU Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year Bobby Sanders earned individual honors for 2011. Current team member Neika Maryn rounds out CLU student-athletes whom received "Outstanding" honors for maintaining a cumulative GPA above 3.70.

Christina Messer, Claire Whitten and Lindsay Bowden earned "Superior" standing for keeping GPA's above 3.40. Goalkeeper Rachel Hahn graduates with "Excellent" standing and a grade point average above 3.20. Fellow net minder Jessika Bell achieved similar marks following her rookie season.

This year marks the third straight season Cal Lutheran has maintained a team GPA of 3.00 or higher. CLU has raised the bar during that time from 3.00 in 2009, to 3.06 in 2010 up to 3.21 following this past year.
