Regals Sweep Opponents at SCIAC No. 1

CLU tops La Verne and Caltech in SCIAC action

Anna Schlosser helped the Regals to a sweep against the competition at the SCIAC Multi-Dual No. 1 meet on Saturday.

LA VERNE, Calif. – In the first head-to-head conference meet of the season, the Cal Lutheran women’s track and field team swept its slate of opponents on Saturday, downing Caltech 139-12 and La Verne 102-59, at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Multi-Duals No. 1 at Ortmayer Stadium.

The Regals had one exceptional performance after another throughout the meet and were led by sophomore Alexa Barnes, who came away with two event wins. The Olympia, Wash. native took first place in the Discus with a personal best throw of 36.78m to tie for eighth all-time in CLU history. Barnes also improved on her previous top mark of 41.17 in the Hammer Throw, with a distance of 41.40m for another first place finish. Rounding out her top finishes of the day, Barnes placed second in the Shot Put with a heave of 10.20m.

Freshman Kate Cochran was also instrumental for the Regals in the throwing events, placing third in both the Discus (31.21m) and Hammer Throw (38.50m) while Morgan Snyder paced CLU in the Javelin with a throw of 25.27m to place fourth.

Snyder also competed in the Triple Jump, where she also led the Regals with a second place finish after leaping 10.30m. Teammate Rebecca Kozlowski was one spot behind her in the standings with a jump of 9.78m.

Kendall Guidetti gave the Violet and Gold another second place finish with a 4.51m mark in the Long Jump while Kelsey Rouse placed fourth in the event after jumping 4.99m. The versatile Rouse led the Regals with a second place finish in the High Jump (1.55m) and a fourth place finish in the 100m Hurdles (16.96).

For the second straight week, the freshmen pair of Megan Pollack and Kayla Cross tied in the Pole Vault, increasing their marks from last week to 2.89m to finish third. Anna Schlosser placed third in the High Jump after clearing 1.50m to round out the top performances in the jumps.

Freshman Sarah Dearborn provided the lone win for CLU on the track after racing to the finish line in 1:01.01 in the 400m. In the 100m, Ana Cordoba led the way with a speedy time of 12.67 to place second and Guidetti placed fourth in the event after clocking a 12.80. Cordoba also led the Regals in the 200m with a third-place time of 26.78 while Dearborn was close behind in fourth (27.28).

In the distance events, Erin Knight (13:31.53) and Katie Young (13:45.48) placed third and fourth, respectively, in the 3000m Steeplechase while Sarah Parsons led the Regals in the 5000m with a time of 20:25.48 to rank fourth.

The 1500m saw Rachel Ereso run a time of 5:22.94 to place sixth and Kylie Rodriguez finished fourth to lead the Regals in the 800m with a time of 2:38.36.

Cal Lutheran is back in action this Friday, Mar. 10 at the Occidental Distance Carnival/Spring Break Classic beginning at 11:00 a.m.
