Tom Dodd

Head Coach

CLU head coach Tom Dodd has led the swimming and diving teams since its inception in 2003.

Starting the program from scratch he has taken multiple swimmers to individual SCIAC crowns and several NCAA National Championship appearances.

In 2015, six Kingsmen earned All-SCIAC honors for their performance during the conference championships and a total of 16 school records were broken. Jonah Hobbs captured the individual title in the 1650 freestyle and Ryan Brem was a NCAA Regional Diving Qualifier in 2014 and 2015. Joining Brem as a regional qualifer in 2014 was Joey Zielsdorf and on the women's side, Sheyenne Machida. 

In 2008 Jared Vermillion and diver Eric Vaughn earned SCIAC titles in individual events for the Kingsmen while Regals Jill Minehan traveled to the NCAA National Championships.

During the 2007-08 season Kelsey Myers and Christa Ratcliff combined for five SCIAC Championship individual titles in qualifying for NCAA's.

In 2002, he had his first national champion as Kevin Wang won the 400 Individual Medley.

During his first five years at the NCAA Division III level, Dodd led nine student-athletes to All-American and Honorable Mention All-American finishes at the National Championships.

An eight-time Northwest Conference Coach of the Year, Dodd established the Whitworth swim team into one of the pre-eminent programs on the West coast and has gained national prominence for the Pirates.

Prior to joining the NCAA, Dodd coached five Whitworth swimmers to NAIA individual national championships and won two relay titles as well. He was tabbed the 1996 NAIA Men's Coach of the Year.

Dodd, who possesses over 30 years of coaching experience, came to CLU from Whitworth College in Spokane, Washington where he served as the Aquatic Center Director and head coach of the men's and women's swim teams since 1987.

Before joining the Whitworth staff, Dodd was the head coach of the 120-member Spokane Area Swimming program. He has also served as an assistant coach at UC Berkeley and with the San Ramon Swim Club.

Dodd has Division I coaching experience as well as an assistant coach with the staff at UC Berkeley during the 1981-82 seasons.

A 1979 graduate of CSU Hayward, Dodd earned a Bachelor's Degree in Geography. He also studied Photogrammetry while at the University of Idaho.

Tom and his wife Joan have two children and in their spare time enjoy swimming, reading and camping.
