INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –Announced this week by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), sophomore Cal Lutheran swimmer Mardell Ramirez was selected as a 2017 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving National Championships qualifier in the 200 freestyle.
After setting a new Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), SCIAC Championships Meet and CLU record in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:51.10, the first-year swimmer was among the top student-athletes in the country in the event and will now compete for a National title.

Ramirez will be joined by men’s swimming and diving teammate Benjamin Brewer who is also competing on the national level for the first time by earning a selection in the 500 free and 1650 in which he also set a new SCIAC, Meet and school record last week.
