Pomona-Pitzer took control early putting seven of its first eight shots on
goal within the opening 24 minutes of the game.
The second of that onslaught was a Mackenzie Harrison free kick striking the
lower half of the crossbar, deflecting off CLU goalkeeper Laura Brain and into
the Regals net.
Brain made all six of her saves in the first half during that 24 minute
span.
The Regals offense had taken only two shots before Harrison had taken two of
her own and scored on both. The sophomore put away a rolling corner kick from
Claire Mueller in the 33rd minute providing a 2-0 margin lasting through
halftime.
CLU's offense took control in the second half outshooting PP 10-6 over the
final 45 minutes.
Twenty minutes in Mayra Virgen had a prime opportunity to score as a through
pass led the freshman to the top of the 18-yard box. However the charging
Sagehens goalkeeper Alex Scharr slide tackled the ball away from danger preserving
the shutout for the time being.
After that the Regals fired at will taking seven of its 10 second half shots
over the ensuing 12 minutes.
CLU's Jessica Reid fired a long range shot from the right side that floated
into the crossbar and straight down at point blank range in front of the Sagehens goal. Teammate
and team leading scorer Brittany Clark awaited the bounce and headed in her 13th
score of the season over Scharr at the 77:24 mark.
Clark and teammate Rebekah Casas each took a shot in the final five minutes
to net the equalizer but the Sagehens held on for the victory.
