Pair of Regals Earn All-West Region

Youngdahl, Stewart recognized by NSCAA

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Announced recently by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), a pair of student-athletes from the Cal Lutheran women’s soccer team were named to the 2016 NCAA Division III All-West Region Team. 

Junior forward Kali Youngdahl was named to the Second Team while freshman defender Zandra Stewart earned Third Team recognition. The duo also earned First Team All-SCIAC honors this season to add to their accolades.

This is the second All-West Region selection for Youngdahl, who was named to the Third Team as a freshman in 2014. This season, the Renton, Wash. native tied for the team lead with six goals and played in all 21 games while making 20 starts. Youngdahl was a consistent offensive leader for CLU and led the team with 54 shots and 24 shots on goal for a .444 shots on goal percentage. The junior also added two assists and scored game-winners against Whitman and Redlands.

Stewart, meanwhile, was one of just three freshmen to be recognized after making an immediate impact for the Regals. The Santa Maria, Calif. native helped anchor a defense that produced an outstanding eight shutouts during the season and boasted a goals against average of 0.73.

Cal Lutheran finished the season 12-5-4 overall and 6-4-4 in conference to place third while making its 11th straight SCIAC Postseason Tournament appearance.
