Five Regals Garner All-SCIAC Honors

Youngdahl earns third straight First Team selection

Five different Regals earned All-SCIAC honors this season.

PASADENA, Calif. – Five members of the Cal Lutheran women’s soccer team earned All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) honors as announced by the league office on Tuesday afternoon.

Kali Youngdahl and Zandra Stewart were selected to the First Team while the trio of Bri Pinal, Sarah Tadeusiak and Olivia Leyva landed on the Second Team.

Youngdahl, a junior midfielder, earns her third consecutive First Team selection after leading the team with four goals in conference, including a game winner against Redlands to open SCIAC play for the Regals. The Washington native also contributed an assist, and concluded the season with 18 shots on goal.

Stewart, a freshman defender, earned a First Team All-SCIAC selection after she made an immediate impact for Cal Lutheran. The center back was a constant force along the back line, helping the Regals to four shutouts on the season.

Pinal, a junior forward, was an instrumental player for the Regal offense, scoring two goals including a game winner against La Verne. Pinal emerged as a solid forward for Cal Lutheran, starting in 13 conference matches this season, and finished with eight shots on goal.

Tadeusiak earned Second Team All-SCIAC honors after playing a crucial role in the midfield for the Regals this year. The sophomore was instrumental in facilitating the center of the field and also contributed eight shots on goal, scoring one game winning goal in an away match against Chapman.

Junior defender, Leyva, earned her second selection to Second Team All-SCIAC after a solid season on the back line for the Regals, starting in all 14 conference games and playing a crucial role for the Violet and Gold. Leyva also tallied an assist in an away match at La Verne, helping Cal Lutheran to a 2-0 win.

After going undefeated in conference play, Pomona-Pitzer swept the end-of-year awards with senior defender, Nadia Alaiyan, being named Athlete of the Year while Brianna Lau earned Newcomer of the Year honors and head coach Jen Scanlon was recognized with Coaching Staff of the Year.

Cal Lutheran (12-5-4, 6-4-4 SCIAC) finished the season with a third-place conference finish and advanced to its 11th straight SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
