Regals Drop Regular Season Finale

CLU locks up No. 3 seed for SCIAC Postseason Tournament

WHITTIER, Calif. – In the final Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) matchup of the regular season, the Cal Lutheran women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 contest on the road against Whittier at Graham Field. 

After a scoreless first half, the Poets knocked in the game-winner in the 55th minute after Lauren Kai found Leila Afrasiyabi who proceeded to find the back of the net.

Offensive Highlights: The Regals were peppering the goal all night and outshot Whittier 21-16 overall and finished even in corner kicks at four apiece. Olivia Leyva led the team with three shots, including two on goal, while Nina Winsick, Kali Youngdahl, Alex Albaeck and Jackie Albers joined her with three total shots. 10 different Regals finished with a shot attempt in the match. 

Defensive Highlights: Both Stacey Choate-Ciletti and Coral Hasley saw action in the goal for CLU and each recorded two saves.

Next Up: Cal Lutheran (12-4-4, 6-4-4 SCIAC) locked up the No. 3 seed for the SCIAC Postseason Tournament and will travel to face No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps this Wednesday, Nov. 2. No. 1 seed Pomona-Pitzer hosts No. 4 seed Chapman in the other semi-final. The winner of each match will meet in the tournament final at the site of the highest seed remaining on Saturday, Nov. 5, with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line.
