Throughout the school year, much of the day-to-day focus is directed towards the successes of the Cal Lutheran athletics programs, but on Saturday morning, a group of 152 student-athletes, with their families and friends, gathered inside of the Gilbert Arena for the 12th CLU Scholar-Athlete Society Induction ceremony where academics were praised.
The Cal Lutheran women’s golf team concluded the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships on Tuesday at Oak Valley Golf Club with a three-day total of 992 (+128) to finish in fifth place.
On Easter weekend, the final regular season tournament of the season saw the Cal Lutheran women’s golf team place fourth at the SCIAC No. 2. Earlier this year the Regals combined for a fifth place finish at the first SCIAC event.
Cal Lutheran is one of 450 Division III institutions around the country. During the week of April 6-12, all members will host Division III Week, aimed at celebrating what those schools have to offer student-athletes in the classroom, in the field of play and in the community during the 41st year of the NCAA.
The Cal Lutheran women’s golf team traveled to Illinois over the weekend to compete in the Washington University Spring Invitational where they produced a team total of 670 (+94) to finish eighth out of 15 teams at Gateway National Golf Links.
Before the athletes and coaches at Cal Lutheran could prove their worth in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the university needed an advocate to help build bridges in the transition.
Announced recently by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) office, Dr. Paul Hanson of Cal Lutheran has been honored as the 2015 Distinguished Service Award recipient. Dr. Hanson has served as the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) for close to 20 years, sharing his depth of experience and wisdom with the SCIAC and helped to forge the course for Division III athletics in Southern California.
For the second straight year the Cal Lutheran women’s golf team took home top honors at their host tournament, winning the 2015 Regals Invitational with a two-day total of 636 (+60) after opening a 12-stroke lead on day one of competition at the Sunset Hills Country Club on Monday.
