Women's Hoops Rolls Past La Verne, 75-43
Wright nets 17 in 19 minutes, Regals clinch SCIAC Tourney berth
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Midway through the first half the
Cal Lutheran women's basketball team pulled away from the University of La
Verne and held a double-digit lead the final 19 minutes of the game in a 75-43
victory in Gilbert Arena on Saturday night. Freshman Starla Wright led all
scorers with 17 points and CLU secured a spot in the SCIAC Tournament.

Wright's 17 came on 7-for-12 shooting and she added seven rebounds including
five on the offensive end.
The contest was knotted up at 8-8 after the first five minutes but a 21-4 run gave
the Regals a 17-point lead, their largest first half lead. CLU went into
halftime with a 30-19 advantage.
After ULV scored the first basket of the second half, CLU went on a 24-5 run
over the next 11 minutes and led 54-26 with less than nine minutes remaining
and would roll the rest of the way leading by as many as 34 points.
Channing Fleischmann and Danika Briggs each scored 10 points and Fleischmann
pulled down a game-high eight boards. Donielle Griggs and Brianna Parker put up
a nine points apiece.
CLU shot 19-for-25 at the free throw line led by Nadine Izaguirre's 5-for-6
performance at the charity stripe. The Regals out rebounded the Leopards 47-24.
The Regals shot 50 percent (27-for-54) from the field for the game while
holding the Leopards to 29.4 percent (15-for-51). CLU did damage in the paint
outscoring La Verne
40-14 down low.
Cal Lutheran (17-4, 9-1 SCIAC) will play its next two games on the road,
beginning with a matchup at Occidental on Feb. 11, who CLU is tied for first
place with.
