CLU Convincing in Weekend Sweep

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - Cal Lutheran volleyball posted three-set
sweeps of Lycoming and Widener on Saturday to close out the Posada Royale Fall Classic on
Saturday. The Regals won each of their four weekend matches via the sweep.

Cal Lutheran 3, Lycoming 0 - F
A season-high 14 aces including six in the opening set aided a comfortable Cal
Lutheran sweep in its opening Saturday contest. Rachel Smith, Hayley Tamagni
and Hannah Swaney each collected three aces in the victory.
The
Regals were able to empty their entire bench and still managed to hit .321 as a
team while holding Lycoming to a negative percentage. Tamagni and Erin
Hedrick came off the bench to lead CLU with six kills apiece. Teammate Erin
Parks collected five kills on only 10 attacks and led the team with two block
assists.
Regals
setter Kennedy Peters led all players with 13 assists, followed by Jackie
Russell with nine and Jena Chavez with eight.
Cal Lutheran 3, Widener 0 - F
CLU finished off the weekend with another convincing win defeating Widener
25-16, 25-8 and 25-17. The Regals started off the match collecting 19 kills in
the opening set.
Casy
McWhirk was a primary contributor leading all players with 11 kills and four
service aces. On the day Cal Lutheran served up 23 aces and gave up only one to
the opposition.
Rachel Smith had a double-double
with 10 kills and a team-high 12 digs in the victory. In the earlier match
against Lycoming she collected dig No. 1,000 and finished the weekend with
1,017 for her career.
No. 15 Cal Lutheran (19-4) returns to conference play when it hosts La
Verne on Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 p.m.
