Volleyball Hosts Cal-Lu-fornia Invitational Starting Friday
NWC, SCIAC well represented at event
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - From Friday afternoon through Saturday evening the
Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center will host the annual 2009
Cal-Lu-fornia Invitational volleyball event. This year 14 teams make the
trip to Thousand Oaks including three SCIAC and five Northwest Conference (NWC)
teams.
Matches will start at 12:30 p.m. on Friday, September 11 and 10:30 a.m. on
Saturday, September 12. Four contests will be played simultaneously with two
courts in the Gilbert Arena and a pair in the Soiland Recreation Center.
No. 6 La Verne, No. 16 Trinity (TX) University and No. 23 Cal Lutheran are
the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) ranked squads at this year's
event.
Other in-state schools include Chapman, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, Pomona-Pitzer,
Redlands, and UC Santa Cruz.
NWC institutions include George Fox (OR), Linfield (OR), Pacific (OR),
Whitman (WA) and Whitworth (WA). Dominican (IL) University out of the Northern
Athletics Conference rounds out the participating schools.
