ORANGE, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's water polo team showed why it's the No. 2 team in the country as the Regals took care of the Chapman Panthers 8-1 Thursday afternoon at the Allred Aquatics Center.
This is the second time this year that the Regals (11-4) have held an opponent to one point. The other game was against Washington & Jefferson. CLU is currently on a four game winning streak.
Cal Lutheran goalkeeper Bailey Meyer was impressive as she played the whole game, made 12 saves and only allowed the one goal. Meyer and the defense combined to shutout the Panthers in the first three quarters.
Meek kept the ball moving through the offense as she tallied a game-high three assists. Erin Cunefare, Seeman and Mackenzie Thomas each had one. Meek had two drawn ejections and Christin Hirn and Kristi McGee both chipped in with one.
CLU's defense worked together very well, and in all, forced the Panthers into 12 turnovers. Cunefare had the most steals with four. McGee and Seeman both had two. Four more Regals each tallied one.
The Regals took the early lead as they scored three goals in the first quarter. CLU added four more in the second and had a 7-0 lead at the half. CLU coasted the rest of the game and won easily with a final score of 8-1.
Cal Lutheran looks for its fifth straight win as the Regals welcome Macalaster to the Samuelson Aquatics Center Friday at 4 p.m.
