INDIANAPOLIS — The Cal Lutheran Regals volleyball team is on its way to the 2018 NCAA Division III Women's Volleyball Championship after receiving an at-large berth from the NCAA Committee and will take on Illinois Wesleyan in Chicago, Ill., on Friday at 1 p.m. Pacific Standard Time.
The field of 64 teams was announced Monday morning (Official Bracket). Cal Lutheran plays in the eight-team regional that is hosted by the University of Chicago. The regional goes Friday through Sunday. The eight teams include Aurora, Cal Lutheran, Cornell, Dubuque, Illinois Wesleyan, Trinity, University of Chicago and Washington-St. Louis. All the games at the regional will have live video and stats.
The Regals make their 18thappearance in the NCAA Tournament. They boast a record of 33-16 in the tournament. Cal Lutheran won the National Championship in 2015 and have been the runner-up twice (1995 & 2013).
Forty-three conferences were awarded an automatic qualification for the 2018 championships. Two institutions were selected from Pool B, which includes independent institutions and institutions from conferences that do not meet the automatic qualification criteria. The final 19 berths are reserved for Pool C, which consists of institutions from automatic-qualifying conferences that are not conference champion and independent institutions.
