Regals Finish Fifth at SCIAC Championships

COMMERCE, Calif. — California Lutheran's Grace Sanchez and Mardell Ramirez garnered individual All-SCIAC honors and the duo also teamed up Brianna Baldwin and Alexia Rojas for a relay All-SCIAC honor on day four of the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Championships.

The SCIAC Championships were held Wednesday through Saturday at the Brenda Villa Aquatic Center. The Regals finished fifth with 413 points.

Sanchez had the best performance on day four as she was the runner-up in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 51.70 seconds. Ramirez was right behind her and tied for third with a time of 52.00.

Sanchez and Ramirez then combined with Baldwin and Rojas to finish third in the 400-yard free relay. The squad finished with a time of 3:33.33.

Rojas turned in another top-five finish as she placed fifth in the 200-yard fly with a time 2:09.78.

Melody Pope swam in the 1,650-yard free. She finished seventh and had a time of 18:17.22. McKenzie Kelly and Carlie Burow both took 12th in their respective events. Kelly finished with a time of 2:11.88 in the 200-yard fly, while Burow competed on the three-meter dive and scored 266.25 points.

Abby Hiller also competed on the three-meter dive and finished 14th with 255.55 points. The relay team of Emily Glass, Gabriella Schultz, Katja Lindfors and Christine Weyers came in 14th in the 400-yard free relay with a time of 3:43.26.

Emily Glass took home 15th in the 200-yard breaststroke with 2:31.55 and Anna Lundsten was 17th in the 200-yard backstroke with 2:12.50.

Pomona-Pitzer claimed the team title with 1,166 points. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was second with 1,015 and Chapman rounded out the top-three with 504. Redlands was fourth-place with 491 and Cal Lutheran was fifth with 413.

The next event for swimming and diving student-athletes is the NCAA Division III National Championships which are held March 21 through 24 in Indianapolis.
