THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women's soccer team won its fourth straight game, all by shutout, as Bri Pinal scored the game winner to give the Regals a 1-0 win over UC Santa Cruz Monday afternoon at William Rolland Stadium.
With the win, the Regals improved to 8-1-1. They are 5-0 at home, outscoring the competition 9-1.
The teams combined for five shots, but no goals, in the first half as the game remained even at halftime. Alysa Frazier was in goal for Cal Lutheran and made one save.
In the second half, the Regals scored the one and only goal in the 56th minute. Kali Youngdahl attempted a shot, which was blocked by the UC Santa Cruz goalkeeper. Pinal was right there to gather the deflection and kicked the ball into the bottom left corner of the goal.
Cal Lutheran controlled the rest of the game and totaled nine shots in the second half. Goalkeepers Frankie Allegra and Britain Chaputa split time in front of the net. Allegra tallied three saves and the win for CLU.
Altogether, 28 Regals played during the game. Allegra, Alana Bernal and Chaputa all saw their first action of the season.
CLU continues the season on the road as the Regals travel to Whittier, Calif., for a matchup with Whittier College Wednesday at 7 p.m.
