ALAMEDA, Calif. — The Cal Lutheran women's golf team placed 15th and finished 88-over-par at the Tim Tierney Pioneer Shootout which was hosted by CSU East Bay on Monday and Tuesday at the South Course of the Chuck Corica Golf Complex.
The tournament featured 19 teams and 104 individuals. The golfers shot 18 holes on both Monday and Tuesday and the Par was 72.
Freshman Grace Cornejo led the Regals as she tied for 29th at 12-over-par with 156 strokes. She shot a 78 on both days as she finished in the upper third of the tournament. She tied for the 15th-most birdies over the two days with four.
Senior Ally Gaskill had the second best score on the team at 24-over-par. After a tough first day when she shot 87 strokes, she improved on day two and put up an 81. She tied for 74th with 168 strokes. Her best holes were Par 3's and she tied for the 38thbest average at 3.38.
Senior Lauren Fesler also competed for the Violet and Gold and tied for 92nd. She shot a 92 on the first 18 holes, but bounced back to shoot an 82 on day two. She finished at 30-over-par with 174 strokes.
Cal Lutheran finished the two rounds at 88-over-par after shooting 338 strokes on Monday and 326 on Tuesday for a total of 664. Cal State San Marcos won the event at 22-over-par (296-302-598), Academy of Art was second at 25-over-par (298-303-601) and Sonoma State was third at 36-over-par (307-305-612).
Sonoma State's Megan Daleo was the only golfer to shoot under-par and won the event at -2 (70-72-142). Academy of Art's Anahi Servin was second at 1-over-par (72-73-145) and Cal State San Marcos' Claire Hodge (70-76-146) and Newman's Kate Robertson (77-69-146) tied for third at 2-over-par.
Up next, the Regals return home and host their CLU Regals Invitational on March 11-12 at the Sunset Hills Country Club in Thousand Oaks, Calif.
