McCardell Garners First Team, Gaskill named to the Second Team

ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — Cal Lutheran's Marissa McCardell and Ally Gaskill have been named to the 2018 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference teams, which were announced Friday morning following a vote by the league's member head coaches.

McCardell, a sophomore from Clovis, Calif., is the first Regal in program history to be named to the First Team. It is the second straight year she has garnered All-SCIAC honors. She was named to the Second Team as a freshman. During the year, McCardell won the Centenary Invitational. She finished third at the SCIAC No. 1 and then tied for third at the Regals Invitational. She placed in the top-10 three more times. Over 15 rounds of golf, she recorded a stroke average of 78.2. She shot a season-low 1-over-par 73 at the SCIAC No. 2.

A junior from Reno, Nev., Gaskill earned Second Team All-SCIAC for the second straight season. She is only the second golfer in program history to be named to multiple All-SCIAC teams. She placed third at the Centenary Invitational. Gaskill also placed in the top-10 two more times. She played in all 15 round for Cal Lutheran during the spring. Her season-low for a round was a 77 which she shot four times. Overall, she tallied a stroke average of 81.5

The duo helped Cal Lutheran win the Centenary Invitational in Bossier, La. The Regals were also the runner-up at their own invitational and then placed third at the SCIAC No. 2. They finished top-five at two more tournaments.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps' Margaret Loncki was named the Athlete of the Year, her teammate Mira Yoo earned Newcomer of the Year, Occidental's Katy Uchiyama received the Sportsmanship Award and CMS' head coach Jodie Burton and her staff garnered Coaching Staff of the Year.
