Regals Sit in Third After Day One

VENTURA, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran Regals golf team got a strong start from Erica Mitchell as she is finished day one with a three over-par 75 and is tied for ninth-place place at the CA State Invitational which was held Monday at the Olivas Links Golf Course. CLU is currently in third-place out of 11 teams.

Mitchell led the Regals on day one as the team shot 24 over-par with 312 strokes. CLU is 20 strokes behind the first-place team George Fox (292) and six strokes back of Chapman (306).

Cal Lutheran's Courtney Martin, competed as an individual, and was right behind Mitchell on the leaderboard at four over-par (76) and is tied for 11th. Marissa McCardell is in a tie for 15th at six over-par. Chloe Barnes and individual Lauren Fesler both shot a seven over-par and are currently tied for 20th. Hannah Pasco and Delaney Buck finished the day eight over-par and are tied for 25th.   

George Fox's Kristin Elich leads all individuals as she fired a two under-par 70. Chapman's Emily Lewis and Occidental's Anna Lundquist are tied in second at 72 strokes. George Fox's Iris Kawada is in fourth at one over-par. Occidental's Samantha Rocha, Chapman's Kristy Harada and Marymount's Suthisa Uenghiranpaisan are tied for fifth at two over-par.  

Rounding out the team standings is Whittier in fourth at 26 over-par (314). Arizona Christian, Pomona-Pitzer and Marymount are tied for fifth at 29 over-par (317). Occidental College (319) is eighth, Ottawa University (331) is ninth, UC Santa Cruz (350) is 10th and La Verne (381) is in 11th.

The tournament resumes tomorrow morning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m.
