THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran's Jade Jordan, Natalie Ruhl and Kayla Watterson all scored double-digit points Wednesday night, as the Regals defeated the Beavers, 66-43, in Gilbert Arena.
The teams went basket for basket in the in the first quarter and continued to go back and forth in the second, until the Regals started to pull away as they went on a 12-2 run. Ruhl came off the bench within the first minute of the second quarter while Jordan followed close behind. Ruhl made a quick three-pointer and moments later Jordan made another three-pointer herself. The pair led the team offensively with 12 points each, marking career-highs for both players. Jordan was 5-for-7 and made 2-out-of-3 three-pointers, respectively. Ruhl also had a team high four assists tonight. Cal Lutheran was up nine points, 34-25, as they headed into halftime.
In the beginning of the third quarter, the Regals started to get in a rhythm as they were making basket after basket. At the end of the third, Cal Lutheran held an 18 point lead, 51-33. They carried that momentum into the fourth as Danielle Roumbos passed the ball to Jozie Tangeman who was wide open and nailed a three-pointer, giving the Regals their first 23 point lead of the night, 62-39. Roumbos made the last shot for Cal Lutheran as they walked away with a 66-43 victory over the Beavers.
Watterson was second on the team for points as she scored 11, going 3-for-4 from the free throw line and added six rebounds. Jessi Westering led the Regals on the defensive end, as she had a career-high 11 rebounds. She also added two assists, two steals and six points.
Cal Lutheran has won back-to-back games and is now 4-3 in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) and 9-7 overall. The Regals are currently ranked third in conference and hope to continue being in the top four teams of conference so they can play in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.
The Regals are back at it on Saturday, as they take on the La Verne Leopards on the road at 4 p.m.
