Regals Walk-Off in Game One; Split Series with Blue Jays,

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. — California Lutheran's Olivia Leyva connected on a walk-off double in the first game of a doubleheader as the Regals took down the Westminster Blue Jays 5-4 in eight innings Sunday afternoon at Hutton Field. The Blue Jays claimed the second game 2-1.

Antonia Rapisardi led Cal Lutheran on the day as she recorded five hits, including a triple. Leyva and Mikaela Mayhew both tallied three hits.

Sienna Perez and Meghan Henry both pitched four innings in game one. Henry came in at the fifth with the score tied at 2. She won her second game of the year and is now 2-1.

The Regals offense got things going as CLU scored a run in the first and second inning. Catherine Slabaugh and Jacy Watanabe both had RBI singles. The Blue Jays answered in the fourth and tied the game.

In the bottom of the sixth, Rapisardi tripled, scoring Mayhew. Westminster tied it back up in the 7th. In the top of the 8th, WC took a 4-3 lead.

Down to the final three outs, CLU got the hits it needed. Mayhew singled in Perez to tie the game. A few batters later, Leyva doubled down the right field line and Mayhew came in for the winning run. Cal Lutheran claimed the game 5-4.

Game two was a pitcher's duel. Sierra Scali pitched 4.0 innings and Brittany Workman pitched the final three.

Westminster got on the board first as they scored a run in the top of the third. Kendall Marinesi answered for the Regals in the bottom of the inning. She tripled as Watanabe came around to score. Westminster got the final say, they scored a run in the top of the fourth and held onto win 2-1.

Cal Lutheran returns to Hutton Field Saturday for some SCIAC action. The Regals host Occidental in a doubleheader with the games at 12 and 2 p.m.
