COMMERCE, Calif. — Sophomore Andreas Nybo and junior Ben Brewer made their way to the podium on day two of the SCIAC Swimming and Diving Championships amongst six individual and two relay team qualifiers from the Cal Lutheran Kingsmen. The team also jumped two spots into fourth place, Friday, now at 196 points after the first 14 events.
Nybo highlighted Friday night by taking first in the 200-individual medley at 1:49.43 and breaking a SCIAC meet record. The win only adds to his day's accomplishments, and breaks the program record he set that morning of 1:50.57 in the preliminaries. Joining him in the 200-IM, freshman Miles Gaitan made the B-cut, coming in 14th at 1:55.54.
Also on the podium, Brewer claimed third in the 500-free at 4:29.36. He is joined by sophomore teammate Stephen Blaauw in seventh at 4:36.83.
Rounding out Friday night's qualifiers, two relay teams made their way to finals of the 200-free relay. McCallum, senior Jack Hartwell, senior Mark Raybukh and Kenny came in sixth at 1:25.76, and sophomore Kye Daniels, freshman Andrew Meneses, junior Thomas Hamburger and junior Chase Ahrens came in 17th at 1:29.83.
Competition continues tomorrow at the Brenda Villa Aquatics Center in Commerce, California, and concludes on Sunday, February 24. For more information and the full schedule, head to TheSCIAC.org.
