ALISO VIEJO, Calif. — The 2019 All-Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) men's basketball teams were announced Friday following a vote conducted by the league's head coaches and senior Kyle Ferreira was named to the Second Team while teammate Austin Cole earned the Ted Ducey Award.
Ferreira (Bakersfield, Calif.) was selected Second Team All-SCIAC in back-to-back years. He was the only player in conference to be in the top-five for points and rebounds per game. The two-way guard averaged the third-most rebounds with 7.9 and had the fourth-most points at 19.2. He has six double-doubles on the year in points and rebounds. In three contests, he has put up 20-plus points, 10-plus rebounds and five-plus assists. Ferreira also hit a half-court game-winner against Whittier on Jan. 19 (71-70).
Cole (Redondo Beach, Calif.) earned the prestigious Ted Ducey Award. The recipient is recognized as a well-rounded basketball player who has demonstrated in conference play the utmost use of his athletic ability. Personal characteristics include leadership, self-discipline, determination, sportsmanship and academics. Cole was sixth in SCIAC in scoring (18.7 per game), tenth in rebounding (6.1 per game), second in the SCIAC in free throw attempts (141), has a 3.75 overall GPA, is a four-year Cal Lutheran Scholar-Athlete and a three-year SCIAC All-Academic honoree.
Pomona-Pitzer's Daniel Rosenbaum was the Athlete of the Year, Caltech's Noah Barnes garnered Newcomer of the Year while Coaching Staff of the Year went to Charlie Katsiaficas and Pomona-Pitzer.
