CLAREMONT, Calif. — The Kingsmen scored in double-figures, but it wasn't enough as the Cal Lutheran men's basketball team fell to the Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Stags 75-53 on Monday night.
Chaplin was next with 13 points. He was 3-5 from the three-point line and was 4-6 from the field. He filled his stat line three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Ferreira added 12 points and a team-high eight rebounds. He had a rough shooting night and was 2-9 from the field, including 0-4 from three. Ferreira scored all of his points in the second half.
The CMS defense held Cal Lutheran to 35-percent shooting from the field and 20-percent from three-point land. The Stags forced the Kingsmen into 19 turnovers and scored 23 points off those turnovers. Another big factor in the game was bench points as CMS outscored CLU 34-4.
The Kingsmen had the quick lead and opened the game with a 7-4 lead after a Cole three. CMS answered the call and scored 10 straight points as they doubled up the Kingsmen. The Stags continued the stingy defense for the rest of the first half and took a 38-21 lead into the half.
Cal Lutheran opened up the second half on a 5-0 run and cut the lead to 38-26. CMS fought back and pushed the deficit to 21 points with 15 minutes left in the half. The Stags held the 20-point lead for most of the second half. CMS took the Monday night matchup with a final score of 75-53.
Cal Lutheran (3-11, 1-5 SCIAC) remains on the road for one game before coming home. The Kingsmen are at La Verne on Wednesday with the tip set for 7 p.m.
