Four Kingsmen Score Double-Digits in Win

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Four Kingsmen scored in double-digits as Cal Lutheran outlasted the George Fox Bruins, 94-88, Monday night in Gilbert Arena.

The Kingsmen (2-1) got scoring from multiple players as two scored 20-plus points and two more added 15 apiece. Austin Cole scored a game-high 26 points and made 6-of-8 three-pointers. He added four rebounds and three assists.

Kyle Ferreira was the second Kingsmen to score 20-plus as he put up 21. He racked up the stats as he had a team-high eight assists and five rebounds. He hit five three-pointers in the win.

KJ Moffett and Connor Cole kept the scoring going as they each added 15. C. Cole recorded his first collegiate double-double and was a monster on the glass as he had a game-high 10 rebounds. Moffett also had a well-rounded game and tallied six assists and five rebounds.

The Violet and Gold also got scoring from Blake Miles and Palmer Chaplin as they recorded nine and six points, respectively. Miles added seven rebounds and two assists and Chaplin made two well-timed three pointers.

Both teams started the game on fire from the field and the lead went back and forth. There were nine lead changes early on before the Kinsgmen strung some points together and built a lead. Cal Lutheran had its first double-digit lead after A. Cole made a layup with 11:58 left in the first half.

A. Cole gave the Violet and Gold a 15-point lead, 40-25, as he hit a three with 8:42 left. George Fox tried to cut into the lead, but free throws by Cole Thomas pushed the lead back to 15. The Bruins were able to shorten the lead a little bit and the Kingsmen led 51-40 at the half.

The second half started exactly as the first as both teams exchanged baskets early and often. With 10:46 left, the Bruins were able to cut the lead down to 68-61, but a clutch three-pointer by Chaplin pushed the lead back to 10. The Kingsmen kept the distance for most of the second half.

With 2:30 left in the game, George Fox scored six straight points and cut the lead to eight at 87-79. With 1:53 left a Bruin layup made 88-82. A little late, George Fox hit a three-pointer to make it 93-88 with 53 second left. That would be as close as the Bruins would get as defense propelled the Kingsmen to the win as they walked away with the 94-88 victory.

Cal Lutheran continues the season on the road and takes on Cal St. Fullerton Saturday at 6 p.m.
