Kingsmen Baseball to Host 2017 SCIAC Postseason Tournament

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The 2017 Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Postseason Baseball Tournament is headed back to Thousand Oaks for the fourth time in the five-year history of the event as Cal Lutheran locked up its 14th overall title and fifth consecutive championship.

Cal Lutheran enters as the No. 1 seed with a 28-10 overall record (18-6 SCIAC) and will play host to the three-day event that includes Chapman (25-12, 16-8), Redlands (25-14, 16-8) and La Verne (21-18, 15-9) as the two through four seeds, respectively. Chapman earned the second seed by way of a tiebreaker over Redlands and will host the Bulldogs on Friday in the first round while CLU welcomes LV. Both games are set for 3:00 p.m.

Saturday, everything shifts to George "Sparky" Anderson Field inside Ullman Stadium where three games will be played with the championship set for Sunday.

The full schedule is as follows:

Friday, May 5 at higher seed

Game 1: No. 4 La Verne at No. 1 Cal Lutheran - 3 p.m.

Game 2: No. 3 Redlands at No. 2 Chapman - 3 p.m.

Saturday, May 6 at Cal Lutheran

Game 3: Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2 - 8:30 a.m.

Game 4: winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2 - 11:30 a.m.

Game 5: winner Game 3 vs. Loser Game 4 - 2:30 p.m.

Sunday, May 7 at Cal Lutheran

Game 6: Championship game - Winner Game 4 vs. Winner Game 5 - 11 a.m.

Game 7: If necessary - Winner Game 6 vs. Loser Game 6 (30 minutes after completion of Game 6).

Cal Lutheran is the only team in the mix that has played in all five SCIAC PST events since the inception of the tournament. Redlands has qualified four times (2017, 2016, 2015, 2013) and both Chapman (2017, 2016, 2014) and La Verne (2017, 2015, 2014) are three-time participants.

The SCIAC PST champion will earn the conference's automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships. Regional play will be held at eight sites across the country from May 18-22 before the National Championships tournament travels back to Appleton, Wis. From May 26-31.
