Recap: Cal Lutheran earned a 31-17 advantage in free throw attempts but knocked down only 16 including 10-of-20 in the second half of an eight-point loss. HU's Ray Brown went for 17 points and 11 rebounds including 13 and seven in the first half. Tied 13-13 early in the first half the Pipers scored seven unanswered and didn't trail the rest of the way. Recap: Both teams shot well in the opening half but Wheaton forced 10 Monmouth turnovers leading to 12 first half points while the Thunder committed only one miscue. WC never trailed and when up 31-24 with 6:12 left in the first half used an 18-3 run over the ensuing eight-plus minutes to put the game away. Thunder's Tim McCrary had game-highs of 21 points, nine rebounds and two steals in the victory.
Recap: The Pipers led by double figures with 11 minutes to go before a pair of David Eseke three's pulled Wheaton to within one 90 seconds later. Thunder's Tim McCrary went for 15 points and 11 assists including the go-ahead lay-up with 40 seconds left. After a pair of missed free throws by the Thunder, HU's Carl Hipp scored the final two of his game-high 19 points sinking a driving baseline floater with 1.1 seconds left to pull off the upset. Recap: CLU outscored Monmouth 26-12 over the first 10 minutes of the second half to erase a four-point halftime deficit. Monmouth's Kendall Cox scored 11 of his 15 points in the first half. CLU was led by 17-point efforts from Kyle Knudsen and Greg Grimm. |
