THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – Luck is on Cal Lutheran’s side today as both the men’s and women’s golf teams were ranked No. 13 according to the latest Golfstat.com poll released on Wednesday afternoon.

In the two fall tournaments for the Kingsmen, CLU placed third and fourth at the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational and Embry-Riddle Invitational, respectively. The Regals used fourth and third place finishes at the same events to open and conclude their fall season.

Cal Lutheran is in great league company with four Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) men’s teams ranked among the top-13 in the country. Claremont-Mudd-Scripps currently leads the nation followed by No. 5 La Verne and No. 11 Redlands with CLU rounding out the group.

Additionally, Mikey McGinn begins his senior season tied for eighth among all Division III players with an average score of 71 through five rounds of play and he currently has 16 birdies and an eagle in 2013. He shot a low-round of 68 on day two of the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational. McGinn is one of five SCIAC golfers in the top-20, joined by No. 2 Kethan Reddy (CMS), No. 3 Justin Beck (CMS), defending Division III National Champion No. 11 Brad Shigezawa (CMS) and No. 19 Mike Caston (UR).

Like their male counterparts, the Regals are also one of three SCIAC teams ranked at this juncture of the season. Redlands broke into the top-10 at No. 9 with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps currently holding the No. 12 spot ahead of No. 13 CLU.

The rankings are all statistically based, with head-to-head results against fellow NCAA Division III schools representing one of the largest determinants. Polls are released each Wednesday throughout the spring season.

Cal Lutheran has now turned its focus to the spring semester as both programs will contend for a SCIAC title and NCAA Division III Postseason berth.
