MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. –The Cal Lutheran football program will enter the 2013 season ranked No. 18 in the country according to the Preseason Top 25 Poll released late last week.

The Kingsmen earned 234 points in the poll, which is voted on by a panel of 25 coaches, Sports Information Directors and media members from across the country and released weekly throughout the season.

A year ago CLU football ran the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference table for the fourth consecutive season to earn their fourth straight league title while finishing a combined 8-2.

With a regular season record of 8-1, CLU earned a bid to host North Central (Ill.) in the First Round of the NCAA Division III Playoffs, falling 41-21 to the Cardinals.

CLU entered 2012 ranked No. 12 and dropped to No. 16 in the final poll of 2012 after climbing as high as No. 7 during Week 10.

Defending national champion Mount Union (Ohio) will begin their 2013 campaign as the No. 1 team in the country with 606 points and 13 first place nods. St. Thomas (Minn.) gathered 594 points with seven first place votes to enter the fall ranked No. 2. Rounding out the top three is Mary Hardin-Baylor who received 554 points to edge Linfield by a point. The Wildcats earned five first place votes and begin the season ranked fourth.

The Cal Lutheran season gets underway on Saturday, Sept. 14 against No. 13 Pacific Lutheran at noon inside William Rolland Stadium.
