Two Kingsmen Honored at GCAA Banquet
Kimmelshue, McGinn earn awards
DESTIN, Fl. –Tonight at the Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort all competitors at the 2013 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships gathered for the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) Division III National Awards Banquet where a pair of Cal Lutheran players was honored.
Chad Kimmelshue repeated as a Division III Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar by meeting the set of criteria for the second consecutive year. He is one of just 30 recipients in 2013.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status an individual must be a junior or senior academically and compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 50-percent of his team’s competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke average under 79.0 in Division III and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
Also garnering recognition at the banquet for the second year in a row was junior Mikey McGinn who was named an All-West Region recipient. He was one of nine players from the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) honored. Four players from La Verne and two from both Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and Redlands were recognized as well.
The tournament this week is being hosted by Methodist University. The First Round took place today at The Raven Golf Club (par-71). Round Two on Wednesday, May 15 will be at The Links Golf Club (par-72) at 7:30 a.m. (EST).
After the 36-holes, cuts will be made and the advancing teams will play the final two rounds at The Raven Golf Club to determine a national champion.
