DuBois Earns D3baseball.com Team of the Week Honors
Catcher produces offensively, defensively
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. –Cal Lutheran catcher Spencer DuBois was a difference maker during the Kingsmen SCIAC Baseball Post Season Tournament title run over the weekend and was named to the D3baseball.com Team of the Week, announced today.
DuBois has started the last 20 games for CLU and has 30 starts to date this spring. Not only did the sophomore serve as the flawless backstop for three days of solid pitching performances, but he also made an impact with his bat with a .556 average.
Going 5-for-9, DuBois had a double and an RBI. He was also hit by a pitch, stole a base and scored two runs. In the tournament opener DuBois had an RBI single up the middle in a 4-3 victory over Occidental. On Saturday he was 3-for-3 and reached after being hit, scoring once. During the finale he notched a hit and scored a run leading the Kingsmen to the title.
Defensively, he caught all 25 innings without a single error and made 24 putouts with an assist. In a heads up play against Redlands, DuBois popped up from behind the plate on a ball hit to the infield and when the throw soared past first base he was there to back up the play and promptly got the ball to first baseman Nick Boggan to catch the runner after he took a turn, taking the wind out of the Bulldogs sails in the fifth inning.
DuBois is the third Kingsmen player to be recognized on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week. Nicho DellaValle earned the honor during week eight on April 9 and Aaron Roth represented the Violet and Gold during week 10 on April 23.
Cal Lutheran (34-7-1) is currently ranked No. 6 in the America Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) poll that was released today. The Kingsmen will travel to Austin, Tex. for the West Regionals next week with play scheduled for May 15-19 at Concordia University Texas.
