THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – This morning the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District® Baseball Teams, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), were released. The top student-athletes, including Cal Lutheran’s Nick Boggan, from the nation are recognized for a combination athletic and academic success.

The Academic All-District® teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. Criteria for nomination include holding better than a 3.30 cumulative GPA and playing a significant role on your team.

Earning one of the four infield spots for District VIII was Boggan who has started all 39 games this spring for the Kingsmen. As of April 28 he was leading the squad and the country in RBIs (63) and total bases (114). His 11 homeruns leads the SCIAC and is third most in the nation. Boggan boasts a .410 batting average with 64 hits, which are third and second for CLU this spring, respectively.

In the classroom the Pacific Grove, Calif. native will graduate with a degree in Business in a few weeks. He was named to the Dean’s List in 2011 and was nominated for the Festival of Scholars. Twice, in 2011 and 2012, he was an Ernst Young Scholarship recipient.

Joining Boggan on the District VIII team from the SCIAC were Pomona-Pitzer pitcher Jake Bruml and outfielder Mike Moyer and Redlands catcher Sean McMillan.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Capital One Academic All-America® Team ballot, where first-, second- and third-team All-America honorees will be selected later this month.

Capital One has been the entitlement rights holder to CoSIDA’s Academic All-America teams programs since 2011.

Cal Lutheran (31-7-1, 24-4 SCIAC) will host the Inaugural SCIAC Baseball Post Season Tournament from May 3-5 at George “Sparky” Anderson Field at Ullman Stadium. CLU and Occidental play Friday, May 3 at 3:00 p.m. with Pomona-Pitzer hosting Redlands. Games will continue in a double-elimination format throughout the weekend.
