Regals Take Third Again at SCIAC No. 2
CLU finishes third for fourth consecutive time
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. -- The Cal Lutheran women’s golf team finished in third place for the fourth consecutive tournament, this time at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) No. 2 held at La Purisima Golf Club in Lompoc, Calif. After combining to shoot a 387 during Saturday’s first round, the Regals held on to third place on Sunday with a final round 391 to give them a two-day score of 778 (+202).
McKay Weiler was CLU’s top overall individual, finishing 12th. The freshman from Monrovia, Calif. opened the tournament with 92 on Saturday and managed to improve her score by one on day two with a 91. Her total score of 183 (+39) was just three shots away from finishing in the top ten.
Danika Cochiolo was Cal Lutheran’s next top finisher, coming in at 15th after back-to-back 94s and giving her a two-day total of 188 (+44).
Rounding out the tournament for the Regals were Devon Meredith, Lisa Borgialli and Aida Mahfood. Meredith came in 21st, Borgialli in 22nd and Mahfood in 23rd.
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps ran away with the team title, finishing with a two-day score of 681 (+105). Redlands came in second with a combined final score (+148).
The tandem of Maya Reddy and Tiffany Su of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps tied for the individual title as both carded a final score of 165 (+21).
Occidental’s Kristin Oberiano came in third after posting a combined 167 (+23).
The Regals are back in action next when they travel to Memphis, Tenn. to compete in the Rhodes College Invitational. The tournament at Windyke Golf Club starts Monday, April 15 and concludes with the final round on Tuesday, April 16.
