Regals Close Out PLNU Invite
Regals finish in 18th
SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Cal Lutheran women’s golf team wrapped up their first tournament of the spring with an 18th-place finish at the Point Loma Nazarene University Super San Diego Challenge Tuesday afternoon.
The Regals combined for a score of 376 (+88) on the second day of the tournament to finish with a two-round score of 744 (+168).
McKay Weiler posted the top finish for Cal Lutheran by placing 70th in the 110-player field. The freshman from Monrovia, Calif. managed a round of 88 Tuesday after carding an 86 during the first-round to finish with a total of 174.
Freshman Aida Mahfood added a tie for 87th with a 185, including a final-round score of 92. Fellow freshman Danika Cochiolo finished just two shots behind Mahfood in the final standings after posting a second-round total of 96.
Senior Lisa Borgialli and freshman Devon Michaels rounded out the Regals by posting identical scores Tuesday. The tandem both shot 100 during the second-round to finish with a two-day total of 198.
Cal State-San Marcos ran away with the tournament hosted by Riverwalk Golf Course after finishing with two-round score of 626 (+50), which was six shots better than second-place Grand Canyon University.
Megan Woodland of the University of Victoria-British Columbia claimed the individual title with a five-over-par score of 149, including a final round 79. Spencer Heller of Sonoma State finished second at 150, while Charlotte Jaengkit of Grand Canyon Univ. came in third with a 152.
The Regals will have to make a quick turn-around as they travel to Chino, Hills Calif. Friday, Feb. 15, to take part in the Pomona Invitational at Los Serranos Golf Club.
