Damron, Edwards Selected to Lindy's Preseason Team
Football pair recognized among best in nation
THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The college football season
is still a couple months away but two Cal Lutheran football players
have been selected to the 2009 Lindy's Preseason All-Division III Team.
Senior Victor Edwards was named to the first team while sophomore
Jackson Damron landed on the second team.
Edwards, a cornerback was named all-region and All-SCIAC after his
performance last season. Perhaps his most impressive game last year
came in a conference battle with Occidental College where Edwards
intercepted three passes. He finished the 2008 season with five
interceptions, 39 tackles (nine for a loss) and two sacks.
Damron, a kicker closed his rookie season last year with spots on the
All-SCIAC and all-region teams. In 2008 he succeeded on 17-of-23 field
goal attempts and totaled 74 points on the year including a season-long
49 yard field goal in a home victory over Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.
Damron averaged 61.4 yards per kickoff last year and booted seven for
touchbacks. The sophomore to be was also recognized with a spot on the
Consensus Draft Services Division III Preseason All-American Second
Team.
The Kingsmen went 7-2 overall last year and 5-1 in conference for a
second place finish. They are set to open the 2009 season in Salem,
Ore. when they travel north to face Willamette University on Sept. 12.
