Coach, Player of the Year Top List of CLU All-Americans

Four Regals named to water polo A-A team

BRIDGEPORT, Pa. - Cal Lutheran women's water polo standouts Meredith Butte, Joy Cyprian, Bobby Sanders and Ashley Bentz were chosen as members of the 2009 Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-American Teams, released on Thursday. Butte and CLU Head Coach Craig Rond were named as ACWPC Division III Player and Coach of the Year, respectively.

Butte becomes the first student-athlete in CLU water polo to earn multiple first team All-America selections earning back-to-back bids in 2008 and 2009. She was also named NCAA All-Tournament Team and 2009 SCIAC Player of the Year.

Cyprian now has a first team award to go along with her 2008 Second Team selection. Earlier in the season she became the first Regals player to earn multiple All-SCIAC First Team selections taking the honors in 2008 and 2009. She is the school's all-time leading scorer with 163 goals, ranks second with 97 assists and third drawing 111 exclusions.

Sanders rounds out the Cal Lutheran All-American First Team selections as she headed the team's defensive effort. Her 93 steals in 2009 broke the school's single season record and in only two years ranks third in CLU history (133). She also notched an All-SCIAC Second Team while adding 22 assists and 14 goals.

Bentz's All-American Second Team spot equals a 2008 group of four members earning this postseason accolade. She added 48 goals, 69 steals and 25 assists in her final season with the Regals. A 2009 First Team All-SCIAC selection she ranks in the top-10 school marks in all four field player categories (goals, assists, steals, drawn exclusions).

Cal Lutheran finished the 2009 campaign 19-15, 10-0 SCIAC en route to its first ever conference title and NCAA Championship appearance.

Pomona-Pitzer's Nikki Ruesch and Sarah Woods, Occidental goalkeeper Laura Simanonok, and Redlands' Sam Greenawalt complete the list of First Team selections.
