THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The California Lutheran University men's soccer team surged past Caltech, 5-1 at home on Saturday. Matt Fernandez had a career day assisting on a pair of scores before putting away his own in a 3:34 span in the second half.

Caltech held the Kingsmen scoreless in first half following five first half saves from Grayson Chadwick, who ended up with 13 for the game.

CLU's Steffen Isetorp scored his first goal of the season to break a scoreless tie in the 63rd minute. Freshman John Barley earned the assist and his first career point as a Kingsmen.

The tone was set following the team's opening goal as Hiroki Sera, Josh Moskowitz and Fernandez each scored in order within the next six minutes of taking the lead.

Just under 10 minutes later Robert Yajima evaded several Caltech defenders and put away his first goal of the season.

CLU nearly earned back-to-back conference shutouts following a 2-0 Wednesday win over Whittier, but Caltech's Tyler Volkoff finished a one-on-one against the Kingsmen goalkeeper in the 89th minute.

Cal Lutheran (5-4, 3-1 SCIAC) will travel to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges (2-4-2, 2-1-1 SCIAC) on Wednesday, October 1 at 4 p.m.
