Seniors Sent Off with Win

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - The final regular season home game of the season saw the Cal Lutheran women's water polo team take down Redlands 12-5 in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) senior day to remember for a pair of Regals.

Prior to competition, KC Brendel and Logan Young were thanked, honored and recognized for her contributions to the program over the last four years. The duo then went on to lead CLU to victory.

Once the whistle blew, the Regals paced play. Megan Seeman grabbed the ball on the opening sprint and Brendel finished the possession by scoring the first goal of the game on her only attempt. Both Nikki Roed and Sam Wulfestieg added goals in the first frame as CLU jumped out to a 3-0 lead.

In the second, UR got on the board, but Victoria Rose Meek promptly pushed the lead back to 4-1. Redlands was able to find the back of the net twice more. Holding a 4-3 advantage, Roed converted a skip shot with three seconds to play in the half giving the home team a two-goal lead.

After a brief break, the teams returned to the pool where the host Violet and Gold outscored the Maroon and Gray 7-2 to seal the win.

Roedmatched the entire Redlands offensive output with five goals on six shots to lead the way while both Meekand Wulfestiegscored twice. Seven different players handed out an assist and Meek drew a team-leading four ejections while Kristi McGee finished with three.

Defensively, Bailey Meyer recorded 14 saves, nabbing a pair of steals as well. Brendel also had two steals while four others had one apiece in the contest. Additionally, Brendel, Roed and Erin Cunefare each tallied a field block for CLU today.

Cal Lutheran (14-11, 5-3 SCIAC) travels to the 2017 SCIAC Championships hosted by La Verne from Friday, April 21 to Sunday, April 23 where they will open as the fourth seed.
