ORANGE, Calif. - On the road this morning, the Cal Lutheran women's water polo team returned to the win column by doubling up Chapman 10-5 in a Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) showdown.
CLU jumped out to a 3-1 first quarter lead and never looked back. The teams exchanged goals in the second stanza and the Regals held a 4-2 advantage at the break. The visiting Violet and Gold blanked the Panthers while scoring twice in the third and in the final period put in four while allowing three.
Offensive Highlights: Christin Hirn led the way with a 4-for-4 showing at the offensive end, pacing all players and nearly outscoring CU single handedly. Megan Seeman, who won all four sprints, added a hat-trick for the Regals and Kristi McGee chipped in with a pair while Victoria Rose Meek scored the final goal, in her only attempt of the game, for CLU. Mardell Ramirez and Nikki Roed each handed out two assists in the win and the four drawn ejections came from four different players.
Defensive Highlight: Not only did Bailey Meyer serve as a wall for the Regals as the goalkeeper with 10 saves, the sophomore also nabbed a team-high five steals in the win. Mackenzie Thomas tallied two steals and Logan Young came up with the other one. Young also recorded two more field blocks to continue her defensive tear as a senior. McGee, Ramirez and Seeman each added a field block as well.
Cal Lutheran (13-11, 4-3 SCIAC) returns to the Samuelson Aquatics Center for the final time of the spring on Saturday, March 15 when the Regals welcome Redlands for an 11:00 a.m. first sprint.
