THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. - After a successful preseason, the Cal Lutheran women's water polo team dove in for the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) opener against Occidental where the Regals downed the Tigers 10-4 at the Samuelson Aquatics Center this morning.
On a beautiful Saturday morning, CLU jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead and increased its advantage to 6-1 at the intermission. Out of the break, the Violet and Gold continued to control the pace of play, adding two more goals in the third period and another pair in the final frame en route to the win.
Megan Seeman gave CLU an edge by winning all four sprints and scoring two goals while Nikki Roed scored a hat trick to lead the Regals, adding an assist and a steal as well. Kristi McGee and Logan Young scored a pair apiece and Christin Hirn added the final goal to the team tally. Hirn, McGee, Maddie Campbell and Mackenzie Thomas all handed out an assist and Victoria Rose Meek managed to draw four ejections with both Nicole Guerriero and Sam Wulfestieg finishing with two.
Defensively, Logan Young had another stellar performance, earning four steals with a pair of field blocks. McGee also notched a field block and KC Brendel came up with two steals. Bailey Meyer recorded nine saves for CLU today in the victory as the goalkeeper.
Cal Lutheran (10-8, 1-0 SCIAC) continues league action on Wednesday, March 22 when the Regals travel to La Verne for a 4:00 p.m. first sprint with the Leopards.
