ORANGE, Calif. - Against Chapman on the road today in Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) play, the Cal Lutheran men's basketball team was unable to overcome an early deficit, falling 70-59 at the Hutton Sports Center.
While Chapman shot 59.5 percent from the floor as a team, CLU combined to hit just 36.4 percent of its shots and the Panthers out rebounded the Kingsmen 33-20. The Violet and Gold did force 19 turnovers and committed just 10 on the night.
Offensive Highlights: Leading the way for Cal Lutheran was Caleb Richey with 20 points and Wolfgang Wood finished with 17 as the only two players to reach double figures. Richey and Blake Miles each handed out two of the six assists.
Defensive Highlights: Wood paced the defensive unit with seven rebounds, including four at the offensive end of the court, and a pair of steals to match Miles with a team-high. Kenneth Moffett notched the only block of the game for CLU.
The Opponent: Chapman (8-10, 3-6 SCIAC) snapped a five-game skid dating back to the first time the two teams met this season. James Taylor led all players with 26 points and was a rebound away from a double-double with nine. He also handed out a team-leading three assists. Reed Nakakihara added 19 points in the game for CU.
Cal Lutheran (12-6, 5-4) remains on the road Thursday, Feb. 2 when the Kingsmen travel to Whittier to face-off with the Poets at 7:00 p.m. inside the Graham Athletics Center.
