Gimbel, Weiler Named All-SCIAC

CLU pair honored by league

McKay Weiler became a two-time All-SCIAC honoree while Jenna Gimbel took home her first accolade at CLU in 2014.

PASADENA, Calif. –In an announcement by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) today, a pair of Cal Lutheran women’s golfers garnered All-SCIAC honors for the Regals this spring.

During a record-setting season the Violet and Gold were consistently led by the junior-sophomore duo of Jenna Gimbel and McKay Weiler.

Weilerbecame a repeat recipient while Gimbelearned her first league honoras each was named to the Second Team All-SCIAC.

At the SCIAC No. 2 Gimbel produced a 36-hole total of 156 (+12) for third place. Her equal rounds of 78 also marked a league season-low in her inaugural CLU campaign. Three different days she recorded a score in the 70’s while shooting in the 80’s during the other four rounds.

In her second season for the Regals, Weiler carded two rounds in the 70’s with a season-low also coming at the SCIAC No. 2 where she used 78 strokes to complete the course on the first day of competition.

Overall, Gimbel and Weiler tied for eighth at the SCIAC No. 1 and went on to place third and eighth at the SCIAC No. 2 and 14th and tied for 12th at the SCIAC Championships, respectively.

Claremont-Mudd-Scripps junior Shaina Raskin was named the SCIAC Athlete of the Year while Redlands freshman Raquel Gordon was honored as the Freshman of the Year.

Both golfers will return to the greens in 2014-15 for Cal Lutheran.
