Regals Remain in Third at SCIAC Championships

CLU concludes second round

BEAUMONT, Calif. – After 36-holes of the three-day Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships, the Cal Lutheran women’s golf team is third with a 665 after producing a 333 (+45) on day two.

Both Danika Cochiolo and McKay Weiler used one less stroke in the second round to finish with scores of 81 (+9) and 83, respectively, with eight pars apiece. Cochiolo shot a pair of birdies while Weiler recorded one. Cochiolo is currently 10th overall as the top CLU golfer.

Using 11 even-par holes, Jenna Gimbel also shot a birdie and finished with another 84, matching her first round score. Her two-day total sits at 168 (+24).

The final score on Monday came from Kelly Shotwell who tallied an 85 with one birdie as well. Rounding out the squad today was Hannah Purdy with a 94.    

Leading the individual standings with a two-day total of 156 (+12) is Melody Sue from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.

CMS holds the top spot with a 646 (+79) followed by Redlands (650), CLU (665), Occidental (683), Pomona-Pitzer (691) and Whittier (751).

Cal Lutheran and the rest of the field will conclude the 2014 SCIAC Championships tomorrow, Tuesday, April 29, with a final 18-holes to determine a league champion. Tee times will begin at 7:30 a.m.
