On a breezy Friday afternoon, the Cal Lutheran men’s water polo team breezed past Ventura College 19-5 and Occidental 9-3 in a pair of strong performances at the Kingsmen Mini Tournament inside Samuelson Aquatics Center. CLU has now won six straight games and has scored 90 goals during its streak.
Announced on Monday afternoon by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC), Cal Lutheran student-athlete Chris Gardhouseof the Cal Lutheran men’s water polo team was named Athlete of the Week for his performance during the week of Sept. 12-18.
The Cal Lutheran men’s water polo team wrapped up a successful weekend at the Connecticut College Invitational with four wins coming against MIT, Iona, Penn State-Behrend and host Connecticut College on Saturday and Sunday.
As its tough non-conference schedule continues, the Cal Lutheran men’s water polo team fell by the score of 18-6 against Division II opponent UC San Diego at the Sameulson Aquatics Center on Thursday night.
With the 2016 season set to begin this weekend, the Cal Lutheran men’s water polo team is eager to get back in the pool and improve upon a fifth place finish in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) standings from a year ago. The Kingsmen return 12 while adding an incoming group of eight, with six freshman and two transfers.
The 2015-16 academic year was a memorable one for the Cal Lutheran athletics department. With 430 student-athletes occupying 460 roster spots, a number of milestones were met including the first NCAA Division III National title in school history, which was achieved by the women’s volleyball team, and an individual national champion crowned to round out the year.
