On a warm, sunny Saturday afternoon the Cal Lutheran men’s track and field team opened the SCIAC Multi-Dual season with a split by defeating Occidental 82-75 and falling 97-61 to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
In its final tune-up before Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) action begins, the Cal Lutheran men’s track & field team participated in the 18th annual Rossi Relays held at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Saturday. The Kingsmen were particularly strong in the throwing competitions, recording three top-ten’s.
Nine select Kingsmen and Regals competed in the 2014 Dempsey Indoor Meet hosted by the University of Washington Sunday. Competitors from all levels came to Dempsey Indoor Track to participate in one of the top indoors meets on the west coast and CLU was represented, taking part in nine different events and recording five top tens.
Cal Lutheran unveiled the 2014 men’s and women’s track & field schedules earlier this week. The Kingsmen will look to improve upon a fourth place finish at the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Championships last season while the Regals are hoping for a second conference title in three years.
The Cal Lutheran men's Track & Field team was named an All-Academic team earlier this month by the USTFCCCA. Tristan Baer, Conor Finfrock and Matthew Hamlett were also recognized for their individual academic achievements.
At the conclusion of each academic and athletic year the school with the most combined championships points in Division III is honored with the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. In 2012-13 Cal Lutheran climbed in the standings from 51st a year ago to 43rd out of 328 schools nationwide this year.
