Former Cal Lutheran soccer player Mario Marquez (’93) returns for his sixth season as part of the Kingsmen coaching staff in 2014.
Since 1999, he has successfully coached multiple boys and girls teams and levels in the Redlands, Calif. area. He also served as the Director of Soccer Operations and Director of Coaching for Titans Football Club (FC).
From 2007-2009, Marquez was part of the coaching staff for Chivas USA through Major League Soccer (MLS) and their Academia de Fútbol in San Bernardino, Calif. He had the opportunity to work closely with Chivas USA coaching staff as well as Chivas de Guadalajara coaching staff. He traveled to Guadalajara, Mexico, and coached in multiple international tournaments.
In 2011-2012, he was the varsity soccer coach for the boys program at Redlands High School.
Marquez currently has his national USSF "D" license and an Advanced Regional coaching diploma through the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). He is a member of the NSCAA, Cal South Coaches Association, and Southern California High School Soccer Coaches Association.
Marquez played for Redlands High School (1985-88), attended Cal State San Bernardino (1988-90) and finished his collegiate career at CLU (1991-1993). He was a member of the first SCIAC championship team in 1991 as a starting defender.
He and his wife Joanne have three children Diego, Natasha and Daniela. Diego currently attends CLU and is a member of the football team.
Marquez is a Deputy Probation Officer for the Ventura County Probation Agency. He has been in law enforcement for almost 15 years as a probation officer and state parole agent.
