Brandon Kearney Earns All-SCIAC Recognition
Kearney awarded for second consecutive year
PASADENA, Calif. – After another solid season for the Cal Lutheran men’s soccer team, Brandon Kearney was selected to the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) Second Team as announced by the league office on Tuesday.
The junior forward was a strong force on the offensive side of the ball, combining speed and strength to create opportunities. Kearney tallied six goals on the season, with 18 shots on target. The Concord, Calif. native also contributed two assists, each of them coming in close fought matches against Whittier.
The team captain scored three game winning goals for the Violet and Gold this season, two of them against second place La Verne. Kearney had a knack for timing runs and creating opportunities on offense, and it showed in his stellar performances throughout the season.
La Verne forward Saul Uribe was named SCIAC Men’s Soccer Athlete of the Year after a standout season, scoring 12 goals and adding an assist against Whittier. The senior from Bell Gardens, Calif. also contributed three game winning goals for the Leopards. La Verne Head Coach Trevor Persson and his staff was awarded Coaching Staff of the Year after a solid 11-4-1 finish. Patrick Burke from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps was named Newcomer of the year after scoring six goals in his freshman campaign for the Stags and Caltech goalkeeper J.D. Feist was honored with the Award of Distinction, following a 169 save season between the posts for the Beavers.
