Cal Lutheran is one of 450 Division III institutions around the country. During the week of April 6-12, all members will host Division III Week, aimed at celebrating what those schools have to offer student-athletes in the classroom, in the field of play and in the community during the 41st year of the NCAA.
Before the athletes and coaches at Cal Lutheran could prove their worth in the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, the university needed an advocate to help build bridges in the transition.
Announced recently by the Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) office, Dr. Paul Hanson of Cal Lutheran has been honored as the 2015 Distinguished Service Award recipient. Dr. Hanson has served as the Faculty Athletic Representative (FAR) for close to 20 years, sharing his depth of experience and wisdom with the SCIAC and helped to forge the course for Division III athletics in Southern California.
Last week a number of Cal Lutheran administrators attended the 2015 NCAA Convention in Washington D.C. where legislation was a key topic of conversation, not only for Division I programs, but at the D-III level as well.
Everyone played Bingo as a kid; now, the Cal Lutheran student body has the opportunity to play it again with sporting events! CLU athletics, marketing and student life have teamed up to create Purple Pit Bingo complete with prizes at the end of the semester.
Much praise is focused on athletic success during the day-to-day operations of Cal Lutheran athletics, but on Saturday, May 10, 160 student-athletes were recognized, honored and inducted into the CLU Scholar Athlete Society at the 11th annual induction ceremony in the Gilbert Arena.

At the conclusion of each academic and athletic year the school with the most combined championships points in Division III is honored with the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. In 2012-13 Cal Lutheran climbed in the standings from 51st a year ago to 43rd out of 328 schools nationwide this year.
