Cal Lutheran to Run Summer Sports Camps and Clinics

Coaches to lead youth summer sessions

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – California Lutheran University is organizing and sponsoring summer youth and elite level high school athletic camps. The baseball, basketball, football, soccer, tennis, volleyball camps and specialized clinics were developed by Cal Lutheran coaches and will be run with the assistance of student-athletes in the university’s sports facilities.

A Football Rising Stars Camp will run from 4 to 6 p.m. on June 9 in the William Rolland Stadium. A second Rising Stars Camp will be held on June 16. The non-contact camps for grades nine through 12 will be under the direction of head football coach Ben McEnroe. Since 2007 McEnroe has led the Kingsmen to five Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) championships with the team making four consecutive appearances in the NCAA Division III football championships. The camp on June 9 features University of Washington and University of Utah coaching staffs. The camp on June 16 features the Texas Christian University coaching staff.

A one-day basketball camp for girls high school or club teams looking for a competitive basketball experience will take place on June 15. A one-day elite basketball camp for girls grades eight through 12 will be held on June 16, and a two-day camp will be held Aug.19 and 20. The camps will be held in the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center under the direction of women’s basketball coach Lindsay Goldblatt-Samaniego. In four seasons as head coach, Goldblatt-Samaniego has guided the Regals to a 67-39 record while making four straight appearances in the SCIAC Postseason Tournament.

Soccer Camp for boys and girls ages 5 to 13 will be held June 19 through 23, June 26 through 30, July 10 through 14, and July 24 through 28. Half-day sessions run from 9 a.m. to noon and full-day sessions run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Extended child care is available from 2 to 5 p.m. A Soccer Clinic for male and female high school players who have the desire to play college soccer is slated for July 19. A Regals Soccer Overnight Camp will be held Aug. 1 through 3 for girls ages 14 through 18 with extensive competitive soccer experience and an interest in playing at the collegiate level. Soccer camps will be held in the William Rolland Stadium and co-directed by men’s head coach Dan Kuntz and women’s head coach Frank Marino. Kuntz, also Cal Lutheran’s director of athletics, led the men’s soccer team to seven Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SCIAC) titles and the women’s team to eight straight SCIAC titles. In his seven years at Cal Lutheran, Marino has led the Regals to three consecutive SCIAC regular season championships and three National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) postseason competitions.

Tennis Camp for boys and girls ages 5 through 18 will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 19 through 23 at the Poulson Tennis Center. Players will be separated based on age and levels. The camp is co-led by Cal Lutheran tennis director and men’s head coach Mike Gennette and assistant coach Jerry Yu. Gennette is a United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) certified elite coach and a former National College Coach of the Year. He has coached world and national junior champions. Yu is a USPTA certified professional and Service Award Winner.

A two-day high school baseball clinic is scheduled for July 1 and 2 for experienced male players with an interest in playing at the collegiate level. The clinic will be held at George Sparky Anderson Field and will be led by head baseball coach Marty Slimak. Cal Lutheran is a top tier Division III baseball program that has had winning seasons for the past 25 years, and has been nationally ranked in the top 25 for the past four seasons.

All-American Volleyball Camp for elite level female players ages 15 through 18 will be held July 7 through 9. Kingsmen Volleyball Camp for elite level high school boys ages 15 through 18 runs from July 24 through 26. Overnight and commuter camp options are available. On-campus housing is provided for overnight campers. Volleyball Camp for boys and girls grades two through nine will be held from 9 a.m. to noon July 17 through 21. The volleyball camps will be held in the Gilbert Sports and Fitness Center under the direction of Kellee Roesel, women’s head volleyball coach, and Kevin Judd, men’s head volleyball coach and women’s assistant coach. In 2015 Roesel and Judd led the Regals to the first NCAA Division III National Championship in Cal Lutheran history.
