Matthew Carney '84

Track and Field

Matthew Carney is someone who truly “carried the baton” on behalf of CLU. He and his teammates recorded the fifth fastest 4x400 meter relay time (3:17.24) in CLU history. But it was in the decathlon that Matt excelled. In 1982, he placed third in the decathlon at the NAIA Division II District III Track and Field Championships and 11th at the national Championships, and in 1983, he was the District III Decathlon Champion and came in ninth at the nationals. At the 1984 D-II NAIA Championships, he scored a school record 6,858 points in the decathlon and placed sixth in the nation.
